There are no formal pre-requisites for this program; however appropriate experience in the building and construction industry as well as a basic knowledge of the BCA and other standards is required.

Assessment via interview and portfolio of evidence is available to participants with relevant workplace experience within building and construction environments.

Course Description

This qualification is designed to meet the needs of stonemasons working with sandstone, limestone, marble and other types of stone and stone products to produce stone monuments, buildings and building components, such as walls, floors, arches, chimneys, stairs, windows, decorative moldings, fireplaces and benchtops. The qualification has core unit of competency requirements that cover common skills for the construction industry, as well as a specialist field of work.

Assessment

Participants are required to undertake a number of assessment activities, including:

  • Self-assessment
  • Third-party assessment
  • Competency conversation
  • Completion of a portfolio of evidence.

To obtain this Nationally recognised qualification you must complete the following core units:

BSBWHS516       Contribute to developing, implementing and maintaining an organisation’s WHS management system

CPCCBC6001      Apply building codes and standards to the construction process for large building projects

CPCCBC6003      Establish, maintain and review contract administration procedures and frameworks

CPCCBC6018      Manage processes for complying with legal obligations of a building and construction contractor

How to get a builder’s or contractor licence or registration

To work as a builder or trades person in Australia you must have a licence or be registered (depending on your state or territory). A licence or registration may require a combination of technical qualification, experience, skills and knowledge prior to application.
